Whether it’s at home or at work, there are plenty of times that I don’t feel motivated. Sometimes it’s when the fatigue kicks in. Sometimes it’s when I have a lot on my plate. And sometimes… well… sometimes I just don’t feel like doing anything.

I’m sure you’re right there with me but do not worry, I’ve got you covered. Read on for 10 ways to stay motivated… even when you don’t wanna!

10 Ways To Stay Motivated

1. Set Your Own Goals

It doesn’t matter whether you are your own boss, work for someone else, or are home CEO, it is vital that you set goals that are about you. Often times it is far too easy to set goals based on what we believe others expect of us. But all that does is demotivate us even further. Choosing a goal that you want to reach will spur you on so much more readily than trying to keep up with the Jones’s.

2. Don’t Take On Too Much At Once

One of the worst mistakes that you can make when trying to motivate yourself is to have too much to do at any given time. Multitasking may seem productive but in actual fact, it’s simply overwhelming. Putting all of your attention onto one task at a time will greatly increase your chances of successfully seeing the task through to the end. This will motivate you to do more of the same!

3. Have A Good Morning And Evening Routine

How many of us begin and end our days without a plan? Wouldn’t it be much nicer to wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to go? By creating both a morning and evening routine, you are removing the chances of stumbling upon an uncompleted task such as nothing to wear in the morning and creating a greater sense of calm. This sense of calm can quite easily translate into a renewed sense of motivation.

4. Picture The End Result

All too often we can end up deflated and in a slump simply because we cannot picture the end being in sight. However, by simply thinking about the gain and benefits you will see at the end of any given task, you stand to motivate yourself to press on and get the job done. Sometimes, all of those silly, little tasks that feel so monotonous take away from the bigger picture. As Steven Covey said, begin with the end in mind.

5. Have Fun

Nobody said that doing work has to be boring, even if you find yourself in the most boring job in the world. Instead, by making your tasks interesting and engaging, will provide you with that much-needed boost of motivation and push you on to bigger and better things. It can even be as simple as listening to your favorite tunes while you work. Most importantly, it’s about what makes it fun for you.

6. Give Yourself A Pat On The Back

Have you ever had one of those days when you finish all your jobs and you just want to kick back with your favorite movie and some (healthy-ish) comfort food? Why not integrate a treat into your working day? All those tasks might seem endless, I get it. Set a series of goals, each of which has a small reward at the end, and you will notice that will help to successfully motivate yourself. The reward doesn’t need to be anything frivolous, a simple trip to the juice bar for your favorite smoothie after completing a task is enough.

7 Stay Organized

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when trying to become more motivated and focused is that they do not have a well-organized workspace. How is anything ever supposed to get done when you can’t find your diary or your favorite pen? It might seem simple, but by organizing your workspace and even your to-do list, you will feel much more easily able to tackle your tasks and therefore want to get them done.

8. Break Down Your Goals

If you are working towards completing a big project, the end might seem so far off in the distance that you lose sight of it completely. So don’t just work with the end in mind, but break the project down into smaller, much more manageable tasks. You will find that you are much more easily able to complete each ‘mini task’ and this will spur you on to keep going until the end suddenly leaps into view. You can then reach for those rewards I mentioned earlier.

9. Be Optimistic

No one ever managed to be successful with a pessimistic attitude and this is why it is essential that you remain positive and optimistic about anything you are putting your mind to. Even at times when it feels as though the world is working against you, it is important to find even the smallest of positives to give your optimistic side a push. If you believe in what you are doing, you will be surprised at how much this can give you a massive motivation boost.

10. Take Advantage Of Uplifting Content

It sounds so cliche but it’s true and it works. Absorb some positive vibes in the form of an uplifting quote, Bible verse, or affirmation, and you will notice that your general attitude becomes more uplifted and this will result in increased motivation! Vision boards are also great for this!

It is all too easy to fall into a pit of despair when it comes to motivating ourselves, especially when we have so much to attend to.
