How many of you worry about your teen or tween being online? It seems like it’s 24/7 that they are either on the internet, phone, tablet, Xbox or any other online communication device. This contract will help to open up the lines of communication to keep your teen safe online.

Contracts are a great way to layout expectations and keep everyone in check – both the teen AND the parents. There are great resources out there to find download a contract for your teen but I couldn’t find one that was all-inclusive to handle all of the online electronics a teen uses every day.
So I created my own.
The concepts for phone, computer, internet, Xbox, tablet, etc are all the same. I made this contract general enough to cover the ground rules of what is responsible behavior, and unacceptable behavior.
We had our tween read it, and made sure that he understood everything and also “bought into” everything. He thought it was very fair.

I also made a version for divorced families, with enough signature lines to accommodate four parents.

Kids will make mistakes. It’s a part of growing up. We all know the consequences of the mistakes they make online. This contract won’t give you a perfectly responsible teenager, but it will help to open up the conversation.

Holly, what a great way to handle digital responsibility! Great minds think alike 😉
Hi Susan – Thank you for your approval. It’s so scary to raise children these days, isn’t it? Hugs, Holly
I think it is really smart that you made contracts for kids to be responsible. I think it is great that you shared a version for divorced families!
Hi Cynthia – Hopefully this is something that even divorced families can agree upon. Hugs, Holly
