What are summers like for you? Is it work-work-work? Or will you be able to get outside and enjoy some sunshine? This summer, I’m committed to being more mindful and enjoying the sunshine on my shoulders. What about you?
First of all, let me begin by thanking my awesome friends at Cents of Style for sponsoring this post and asking me to share my story for Fashion Friday! I am an affiliate and will receive a small commission if you click a link and make a purchase. #mammahastopaythebills
You can certainly read on, but if you wish to know more of the back story that I’ve been sharing with Cents of Style‘s Fashion Friday, you can read about How to be Thankful Grateful Blessed When Life Doesn’t Cooperate and Let it Be.
I’m now on the other side of some pretty major health challenges which was the catalyst of deciding to resign from my full time job. The dust is finally starting to settle and reality is kicking in. I’m starting to amp up the focus on building my blog and business, and working from home is perfect to help me regain my health. And it’s summer.
Every other summer since forever ago has come and gone. It’s been work-work-work-work. Maybe if I was lucky, I would have time for a quick swim at the pool. I was thinking about this summer, and what my new found freedom and health mean to me. Remember those carefree summers when you were a kid?
When you played on the swing set for endless hours?
When the family elders sat on the front porch and made sure all was right in your world?
When you wouldn’t get out of the pool and became a wrinkled prune?
Remember those days? Where you can play outside all day long and not have a care in the world. Where going barefoot is the only acceptable footwear. Where lazy summer days turn into warm summer nights and endless ice cream cones. Where there are no worries in the world. Where there is no stress. Where life is perfect.
That is my goal this summer. Not to be a kid again, because I do have responsibilities like taking care of my own family and paying the bills. But to take a piece of that carefree child and honor her. And let her live again.
To take breaks from my daily responsibilities and enjoy the sunshine. To be carefree in the sunshine. To find my happy. To go for a swim at the pool. To enjoy a picnic lunch outside. To read under a tree and fall asleep in the shade. To walk barefoot in the grass.
What is your summer schedule like? Is your schedule packed solid? Or will you make some time to enjoy the sunshine and find your happy?

A Little Behind the Scenes
I’m not going to share a picture with you, but I thought I would end with sharing some behind the scenes with you. My 14 year-old stepson is my official photographer, and I thought he did another awesome job. But we had a bit of a snaggle on the day of the photo shoot. Not only was it 90+ degrees outside and I was covered in sweat by the time we walked down to the water, but I was also covered in poison ivy and oozing like a rock star. But nothing stopped me from finding my happy on a sunshine kind of day!
