It’s back to school time which means it’s time to start packing your child’s lunch box. But how safe is it? Is it eco-friendly? These are 22 eco-friendly and SAFE ideas for your lunch bags and everything that goes in them. One less thing to worry about with the back to school craziness!
Over the last year, my family has made some healthy changes in the way we eat, and also by minimizing toxin exposure from household cleaners and health and beauty items. We are making progress in minimizing our plastic consumption but it’s still one step at a time.
Lunch Bags
Did you know that many lunch bags contain lead and other toxic chemicals? These chemicals can leech onto your child’s food. These seven lunch bags are not only adorable and stylish for any age (including adults!), they are safe and eco-friendly.
PS – don’t forget to add some cute personalized labels to your new eco lunch bag!
Snack Bags
Plastic snack bags contain toxins such as PVC, BPA, and phthlates. These chemicals are linked to cancers and are considered endocrine disruptors. When heated (think hot car or bus), these chemicals are more likely to leech into the food. Not to mention the waste in throwing them out every day (or every third day if you wash them). These reusable snack bags are made from organic and/or food safe materials. You can easily wash them in the sink or some in the washing machine!
Food Containers
Similar to the cautions above, plastic containers pose the same toxins. Stainless steel is a great option for food storage. If you need to heat your lunch, glass containers work great.
Other Essentials
Glass water bottles are awesome much safer than bottled water. These stainless steel thermoses keep your food hot or cold. Reusable and washable sporks eliminate the waste of plastic utensils. And of course, don’t forget the plant-based hand sanitizer (no harsh chemicals here!).
