I’ve had this project in my head for awhile, but needed the perfect opportunity to execute. See how this vintage ammo can was upcycled into a succulent container.

It was another epic DIY project at the Bertone Homestead – Hubby, my Dad, and a friend built a double wall built-in book case. Be sure to subscribe to Pink Fortitude so you won’t miss the big reveal!  Hubby collects militaria and we both love history, so trendy or modern decor would not fit the vintage and military vibe of our new book case. We had a few objects that we could display, but needed something else. Something else…..

What a perfect opportunity for this upcycle! I asked Hubby if he had an old ammo can that he wouldn’t mind parting with. This one is circa 1968. All I needed was some stones, potting mix, and of course, some beautiful succulents.

I added the stones first, then the soil, and then the succulents.  They don’t have big roots, so I filled up the soil as much as I could, and then gently placed the succulents on top.

And voila!  I love then on top of this vintage trunk, along with a WWI (yes, that is WW ONE) vintage French trench art picture frame.

You can see the original vignette HERE, but with the addition of the built-ins, we have since moved some things around.

And a close up of the upcycle….

Here is a sneak peak of the built-in project.  I am so happy with how everything turned out!
