This will be one of the most unique displays you will ever see. We took Hubby’s old French trench art, sourced some picture frames to match, added an old vintage trunk, and you will never believe the end result!
I was nursing a sinus infection and while spending a few extra hours on the couch, I kept looking over at the display on the sideboard. It had the standard wedding picture and a few candles. It certainly wasn’t offensive in the world of design, but it was too… ordinary. I knew it was time to change it up.
Hubby had a collection of WWI French trench art that we had displayed on our mantle. They were perfect for the mantle, because they were vertical and in a set of three. What is WWI French trench art you might be asking? During the war, the soldiers in the trenches weren’t always fighting. Sometimes they were stuck in the trenches waiting for hours and hours. And they were bored. And became creative. So they made artwork out of the items they had around them – shell casings, bullets, etc.
When Hubby found these matching picture frames on eBay, I knew they would go great with the other art. Obviously, they didn’t arrive from France with our pictures! We carefully pulled out the existing pictures, and then I used PicMonkey to edit some of my favorite pictures with sepia to match the era.
The last item was the old, beat up, vintage trunk that I found at a yard sale. I had it in mind for something else, but after some rearranging, I knew it would be perfect to finish off this vignette!
There are so many things that I love about this vignette. It captures our love of history, our love of all things vintage, and our love of repurposing items. Our wedding picture was moved to a prominent display area on a bookcase. While the wedding photo is great, this vignette is a better expression of our shared love and passions. And it’s more interesting to look at!
