Chakras and Christianity?

When faced with an Autoimmune Disease on top of a breast cancer diagnosis, I realized that traditional medicine is not the only answer. In addition to good old-fashioned drugs, I started using Eastern healing modalities like meditation, acupuncture, yoga, Ayurveda, and energy healing. As a Christian, I found these healing modalities in sync with prayer, not in conflict with it.

There are Christians who view this the same as I do, and there are Christians who feel that these modalities are against the Christian dogma. Neither view is right or wrong; I honestly believe your journey is personal and should be whatever works best for you. This is my personal experience that I’m sharing with you. Agree. Disagree. But let’s all respect each other’s differences in opinions.

I will tell you this. There is ZERO mention of “chakra” in the Bible. But there is no denying that our body is made up of energy. Don’t do this, of course, but if you were to place your hand on a hot stove, your body’s energy center would take over. God created our bodies and everything beautiful and complex that goes within. For a deeper and similar explanation, read the Chakras and Christianity article on Trinityschool.org.

Chakras 101

Chakras are energy centers in the body that help to regulate everything from your organs to the immune system to emotions. “The Sanskrit word Chakra literally translates to wheel or disk. In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body.” (source)  Each chakra has a color and a purpose.

The 7 Chakras

The chakras begin from bottom up.

Crown Chakra – spirituality, pure bliss, wisdom

Third Eye Chakra – intuition, imagination, wisdom, decision making, inspiration

Throat Chakra – communication, self-expression, personal truth

Heart Chakra – love, joy, inner peace, connection, compassion

Solar Plexus Chakra – confidence, control, self-esteem, power

Sacral Chakra – the connection to and ability to accept others and new experiences, creativity, emotions

Root Chakra – foundation, stability, security, basic needs, grounding

Root Chakra

Your Root Chakra is associated with feelings of safety, stability, security, having your basic needs met, and grounding. It’s the foundation chakra. Think of yourself as the tree and the root chakra is the roots giving you solid foundational support. The color of the Root Chakra is red, so as you read the bible verses and go through the journal prompts, feel free to wear something red or write with a red pen. Totally optional of course!

Safety

Bible Verses

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. – Proverbs 18:10

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4:8

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. – Deuteronomy 31:8

Basic Needs

Bible Verses

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. – 1 John 5:14

For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord sustains the righteous. – Psalm 37:17

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each ay has enough trouble of its own. – Matthew 6:28-34

Bible Verses

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ – Psalm 91:1-2

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. – Psalm 119:105

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. – Psalm 1:3

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. – 1 Corinthians 3:11

Do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. – Romans 11:18
