Sour cream is one of those foods that makes a recipe go from delicious to perfection. But what if you are dairy free? This vegan sour cream fills the void. It’s creamy and tart and just as good as the traditional version.
Sour cream is the underdog of the food world. Well, except when it’s on the top of a taco. Mmmmmm…. tacos. Sorry. Where was I? Ah yes. Aside from living in perfection on a taco, it’s a versatile food. You can add it into a lot of recipes to create a moist, delicious flavor. This vegan sour cream is the perfect substitute.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar may help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, boost gut health, and aid in weight loss. Organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (like Bragg’s) also contains “mother,” strands of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria.
Nutritional Yeast
Hippie Dust. Nooch. Whatever you want to call it. Nutritional yeast is inactive yeast, often used for its savory, cheesy flavor. It’s vegan and gluten-free and available in most health food stores. It’s also got tons of nutrients, including B-vitamins, zinc and protein.
Lemon
The health benefits/uses of lemon include: throat infections, indigestion, rheumatism, high blood pressure, immunity, cleansing, detoxifying, and is even a cancer fighter. Lemons are excellent sources of vitamin C, B6, potassium, folate, flavonoids and the outstanding phytochemical, limonene.
A couple of notes… this isn’t a quickie Nutri Bullet recipe. You really need to be patient and keep it blending for several minutes. The end goal is that smooth, silky, creamy texture that traditional sour cream has. Also, start with around 1/2 cup of water and add a little bit more as needed. Throughout this process, stop often and scrape the sides down with a mini spatula. But seriously, it’s super easy to make.
