Making a homemade vapor rub was on my “to-do” list for a while, and nothing like an epic sinus infection to spur me into action. So… sick as a dog, I made the all-natural alternative to Vicks Vaporub. It only took a couple of minutes. Quick, easy, and I was breathing in the healing aroma of eucalyptus and peppermint in no time. This all-natural home remedy is great for colds and sinus infections.
Ingredients
Small, wide glass jar
3 TBSP organic coconut oil
1 TBSP organic shea butter
15-20 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
In a microwave safe container, melt the coconut oil and shea butter for about 45 seconds. Stir until liquid. Add the drops of Essential Oils, going easy or heavy on the eucalyptus depending on how strong you want it to be. Close the container and place in the refrigerator for about 2 hours to harden up.
I painted the lid of the Mason Jar with some chalk paint, and then added a chalk label, to give it a little decorative touch.
You can keep this at room temperature once the oils harden together. Apply a small amount on your chest area and rub in.
NOTES OF CAUTION:
1. Wash hands immediately and thoroughly after use. Although coconut oil is safe to ingest, you definitely don’t want to ingest this mixture. Additionally, you don’t want to touch your eyes. And your hands will be very greasy. So give them a good scrubbin – ok?
2. Let the oil dry for a couple minutes and/or wear an old t-shirt after applying. The oil takes a few minutes to absorb into the skin, and it will leave a greasy mark on your clothing.
3. Use with caution, and do not use on small children. This is a homemade all natural remedy that many people use to help them breathe better. Pink Fortitude, LLC, nor its owner are responsible for your actions.
