Whether it’s for Cinco de Mayo or any other family night, a build your own taco bar is a fun way to bring the family together.
First, start with festive tablecloths. You can use a green, white, and red tablecloth like I did to make the Mexican flag, or use bright colors as in the Mexican tradition.
What I like best about this is that everything is easy to make. You can make the items from canned and boxes and they are super yummy. You will need the following:
- Hard and soft shells
- Hamburger or turkey meat and seasonings
- Refried beans (canned)
- Corn (use canned or frozen and mix in cilantro)
- Black beans (canned with a scoop or two of salsa)
- Spanish rice (box)
- Salsa (canned – hot and mild)
- Guacamole (Wholly Guacamole)
- Sour cream
- Shredded Mexican cheese (bag)
- Lettuce, tomatoes, onions
- Tortilla chips and queso
Be sure to organize your table in order of how everyone will build their tacos. A little planning ahead of time will eliminate mass confusion at dinner time!
For the centerpiece, I added some mardi gras style beads in a margarita glass, along with the Mexican flag. Oh and speaking of margaritas, don’t forget to make some margaritas for the adults at your party!
Are any of you hungry for tacos now? Who is joining me for our family fun night?
