Stocking Stuffer Traditions
Growing up, our tradition was to open up the stockings on Christmas eve. I always got to open one present before church, usually a piece of jewelry, and then opened the remainder after church.
Mom Santa tried to cleverly disguise the presents by wrapping them in tissue paper, but I loved to guess what each item was. Toothpaste! Toothbrush! Lip balm! And then Dad and I would get those little books filled with candy treats, and we would open them up right away and swap our favorite flavors.
In 8th grade when I took Home Economics, I learned to knit. My proudest accomplishment was to knit a Christmas stocking. Each year, it grew bigger and bigger as the presents would stretch it out. And of course I expected it to be filled up! Whodathunk all those years ago that this bastion of creativity in my brain would result in me becoming a blogger LOL!
Nowadays, I am the
Mom Santa and in charge of filling everyone’s stockings. We have a gas fireplace and our stockings are hung on the mantle. I love their fair isle design, and our three stockings are monogrammed.
