Hubby and I found this adorable vintage school desk when we were out antiquing. I couldn’t help but take it home and give it some love. This DIY will certainly take this sad little desk to the head of the class.
This was what the school desk looked like before the DIY.
Lots of personality on the desk. I love the name and the heart with the smiley.
I used Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Primer Red and leftover chalkboard paint. Although the white is in the picture, I didn’t end up using it. Annie’s can be expensive. My second favorite brand is Dixie Belle which is environmentally friendly and VOC-free. Color = Barn Red.
Step one was to paint the desk portion and the back of the chair in chalkboard paint. I ended up painting four coats to get it to where I wanted it.
Next, I painted the remainder of the chair in red, leaving the seat and one of the slats. The final step was to add some dark wax to the entire chair.
I like the chalkboard on the back so you can write your child’s name in chalk.
