I did everything right. I was young and healthy and did not have family history. As my doctor explained, “lightning hit.” It was an anomaly. But I knew that God blessed me with cancer to become an advocate and help others.  You don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but you can certainly make changes today to stack the odds in your favor. These are five top strategies that will help you prevent cancer.  And number three may even include a yummy green smoothie!

So what can you do to help minimize your cancer risk?

No. 1 – Exercise

Exercise is fundamental to everyone’s health, and especially as a cancer prevention strategy. I read somewhere, “What is the best exercise I should do?” The answer was, “whatever is your favorite.” Meaning… if you are going to enjoy an exercise, you are more likely to stick with it. Don’t feel like you need to train for a marathon if you aren’t a naturally athletic or fit person to begin with. Start with walking or even yoga. You will be amazed at what a few minutes a day will do for you, and how quickly those few minutes will turn into a few minutes more!

No. 2 – Lifestyle

Believe it or not, you don’t have to be a victim of your genes.  Lifestyle is big. Huge. I know that you all know how bad smoking is for you. Let’s shift our focus to the lifestyle factors that you may not be aware of.  How much stress do you have in your life? Do you work a full time job? Have a long commute? Worry about money? Take care of your children and/or aging parents? Are you going through a divorce? Do you already have a chronic illness?  How much sleep do you get each night? What about cell phones? What is the truth? What are the conspiracies? All of these lifestyle factors can play a part in your overall health and cancer prevention.

No. 3 – Clean Food

I love food!  Last year, I made some drastic changes in my diet from a traditional “healthy” diet to one that was completely clean. It’s been a year of transition for my family, but it’s been so much fun to learn to cook new foods, and to be able to visibly see the changes in my overall health.  I’ve learned that it’s not only eating the right kinds of foods, but also eating clean.  This includes buying food that is organic and non-GMO. So what exactly are some of the best cancer preventative foods? Here are three that you can mix up together with some water and ice to make a green smoothie – apples, kale, and kiwi.

No. 4 – Eliminate Toxins

Toxins are all around us. They are everywhere, including our cosmetics, baby products, bath products, cleaning products, rugs, mattresses, and more.  Did you know there are safer options and safer products?  Do you know how to safely remove these toxins from your body?

No. 5 – Be Informed

There’s a lot of information out there. It can be overwhelming to know who to trust. While I am not a cancer expert (albeit a cancer survival expert!), I am connected to those who are at the top of the industry. We have articles, books, and resources in our cancer prevention and survival portal that are trusted and proven.
