I know it seems like all we’ve been doing lately is working on updating the Homestead, and yes, here is another update to one of our transformations – our relaxing back porch oasis. Will you join me for a cup of tea?

It’s always fun to go back…

Before

This is what the porch looked like for the first year after we moved.  It was storage until we worked on some of the other spaces inside.  It was unpacking triage if you will.

During

This is what the porch looked like last year.  Almost there, but it still needed some TLC.  At least at this point, it was functional and not a hot mess.

After

The light beige wasn’t doing much for me.  I wanted to find a color that blended in with the outdoors and gave a feeling of peace and tranquility.  I chose historic colors Benjamin Moore Huntington Green and Townsend Harbor Brown (which is actually more of a dark burgundy).

We used the same green on the trim on the shed.

We upgraded the windows.  All nine of them.  Ouch, I know.

Speaking of windows, we added outdoor curtains to the west side to help offset the hot afternoon sun.

I love coming out here in the morning to drink a cup of coffee and listen to the quiet.  We set it up like an outdoor living room and added a lamp and rug.

I love this old crate.  It brings a little extra character to the space, don’t you think?

We always have several blankets out for those cool mornings or evenings. And of course some comfy pillows.

At night, the string lights grace the outline of the screened in porch.  Our friends call this the Adirondack room.  It really does have a different personality from day to night.

I love working out here. And when my parents come to visit, they don’t leave this space!

Won’t you join me for a cup of tea?
