This peppermint bark soap is perfect for the holidays! It’s super easy to make, it smells AH-MAZING, and the raw cacao provides a little exfoliant. It’s perfect for your Christmas or holiday guests, a hostess gift, teacher or neighbor present, and of course to use in every bathroom in your home. It’s all natural and does not contain lye. Let’s make the DIY…
I don’t know about you, but this time of year, I’m a peppermint bark-aholic! I could seriously be 24/7 peppermint bark… anything! I’ve been wanting to make a peppermint bark soap, and when Hubby announced he’s out of soap, I knew it was time to get out the DIY supplies. Mr. Green Beret Hubby loves my homemade soaps. He actually prefers them to store-bought. Shhh… don’t tell anyone!

About the Peppermint Bark Soap Ingredients
I love making homemade soap. I want my soap to be free of lye (a dangerous process to make) and made with all natural ingredients. It took a while to research different recipes and soap making techniques, but once I figured it out, I was shocked at how easy it is!
Candy and Dye-Free
I’ve seen a few of these types of soaps on Pinterest and they use red food dye and/or candy to give the soap an “authentic” feel. While crushed peppermint candy would look super cute and have better Pinterest-worthy pictures, I’m not exactly sure how your drain and pipes are going to like it. Will the pieces get stuck? I don’t know about you, but I prefer not to have clogged drains.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest has published studies showing food dyes to cause tumors, hyperactivity, and allergies. Do you really want to add those toxic drops to the soap that will go directly onto your skin?
I do love using Essential Oils in this soap. It really deepens the scent. Be careful with your peppermint. It has a strong scent so don’t overdo it.
Raw cacao is crazy healthy! Let’s start with 20 times the antioxidants than in blueberries. It’s also high in magnesium, iron, and calcium. The best part – it is full of happy mood-boosting serotonin. The same benefits are for whether you consume it or apply it to your skin.
Type of Soap Base
We have a lot of vegans in the Pink Fortitude family, so you can use shea butter suspension. Or goats milk suspension is lovely too for anyone else. The choice is yours. I like both bases equally.
The ingredients are as simple as making the soap. The measurements here are for 3 bars of soap.
Goats Milk Soap Suspension Base (nine squares)
or Shea Butter Soap Suspension Base (if vegan) (nine squares)
Peppermint Essential Oil (20 drops)
1 TBSP raw cacao
The directions look lengthy, but I spelled it out so you can follow the directions easy peezy peppermint breezy.
The ratio is three squares of soap base per one bar of this size (3x2x1). So for example, if you want to make three bars of soap, you will want to cut out 9 squares.
The normal ratio is 10 drops of Essential Oil per one bar of soap. Use fewer (but not more) to your scent preference. I like to use a few less as peppermint is pretty strong.
- Cut out the desired amount of soap base squares.
- At half power, heat the soap in a large glass container or glass measuring cup at 30-second intervals. Depending on your microwave, this should take a total of 2 minutes give or take.
- Let cool for 30 seconds.
- Pour approximately 1/3 of the soap into a container.
- Stir in the raw cacao and add 1/3 of the drops of essential oil.
- Ideally, you will want to pour the soap mixture through a funnel into the soap molds. It helps to minimize the bubbles. But if you don’t have one and don’t mind a few bubbles, it’s optional.
- Let sit for 30 minutes or so at room temperature.
- Gently heat up the remainder of the soap mixture until liquid again.
- Let cool for a few seconds and add the remaining essential oil.
- Pour almost to the top of the soap molds.
- Let sit for four hours at room temperature.
- Gently remove from the silicone molds.
That’s it! I broke it down into detailed steps, but honestly, it only takes like 5 minutes to make. SIMPLE! And there is no right or wrong amounts of ingredients. Use a little more or less as it works for you. Be sure to heat only the soap in the microwave, you only want to add the essential oils after it cools for a minute.
