Nature walks can be anything from an easy stroll through a park or a strenuous hike up a mountain. This game isn’t meant to be anything difficult – it’s for kids of all ages! I created it out of some serious nostalgia.

I grew up just a few miles away from the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. From tiny up, Daddy Bob and I would hike the trails. Up until I got sick, even as an adult, we would climb up to our favorite vista.

The family tradition continues. When Stepson was a little guy, we would take him on some pretty strenuous hikes in upstate NY where Hubby grew up and he hung tough! Now that he’s an older teen and a camp counselor, he’s able to share those same traditions with even more littles!

But like I said, this Nature Walk Game can be for the easiest stroll through the park with toddlers and Grands, or an all-day hike up a mountain with older kids.

It’s also a fun way to teach early readers their ABC’s.

Two Ways to Play

You can play as an individual or as a group. The goal is to write down as many things as you see while on your nature walk that begin with each letter of the alphabet. You can play together as a team, or if the kids are old enough, you can challenge each other to see who finds the most. Super simple and fun!
