All you have to do is know how to substitute your old favorites with your new favorites. These treats are the perfect Halloween treat for kids of all ages. So whether you call them Rice Krispy Treats, Rice Krispies Treats, or Rice Crispy Treats, you will never know the difference with this gluten free and vegan version. The recipe is easy – just follow the standard recipe used forever from the “real” Rice Krispies. BUT… with some easy substitutions.
3 TBSP Butter –> 3 TBSP Vegan Butter, such as Earth Balance
1 Package JET-PUFFED MARSHMALLOWS –> 1 Package (10 oz) Dandies
6 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal –> 6 Cups Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice Cereal
1 Container Betty Crocker Frosting –> 1 Container Dollop Madagascar Vanilla Frosting
One important thing to note… I haven’t found “healthier” options for candy eyes. The are the traditional candy eyes which have corn syrup and food dye. You can always keep them for decoration, and then take them off before you give them to your kids. Does 99% close count?

How Do They Compare?
No one will ever know the difference. I gave a batch to a neighbor friend who was having a play date with a house full of littles and they loved them! And the Mom’s are happy with fewer scary ingredients. SCORE!
Click on the recipe card to open a new window for a printable version. After you make the batch of Rice Krispies, cut and spread with the Dollop Frosting, add some frosting piping, and eyes! You now have an un-scary Mummy!
If you are going to make them, just be sure to make several batches as they go quickly! In all seriousness, try and eat them in a couple of days as they don’t last as long without all of the preservatives added to them.
