One of my all-time favorite comfort foods is mozzarella sticks. The breading, the fried cheese… I mean… does it get any better? Until new dietary restrictions and a healthier nutrition protocol kill your dreams of melted cheese bliss. Not to worry my friends, this version of gluten-free and vegan mozzarella sticks is pretty darn close to the real thing and takes the edge off during those moments of comfort food cravings. Try them for yourself!
I can’t even begin to tell you how many fails I had on this recipe before getting it right. Vegan cheese is difficult to work with. But it’s not impossible. I’ve noticed that more and more mainstream stores are carrying shredded vegan cheese. While this is great for other dishes, you really need to find a vegan mozzarella ball, just like the full-on dairy version.
Depending on the brand, some vegan cheeses are meltier and stretchier than others. Until it becomes more mainstream, you probably won’t have a choice and will purchase the ONE brand your store has. I was hoping for fun stretchy vegan cheese pictures, but the brand I used does not stretch. It didn’t impact the taste though.
