Being an honest and legitimate entrepreneur or momtrepreneur takes long hours and commitment. There is no magic wand to wave to get rich quick. But, if you are looking for a side hustle to make some extra money whether it’s for the holidays, to supplement your full-time job, if you have a chronic illness, if want to branch out into your own business, or anything in between, here are 10 ways you can make money from home and online.
There are times in our life where it’s a little rougher than others and you are looking to make extra money.
All of my recommendations are 100% legitimate. 10 Ways to Make Extra Money – From Home and Online
I started my blog as a hobby to connect with others. It turned out to be a fun little side hustle and from this experience, I’ve learned about other ways to make extra money. When I was forced to resign from my full-time job in 2017 for health reasons, our income was cut in half and it was a tough blow to my family. I had to figure out a way to bring in some extra cash and make extra money while dealing with severe health challenges. Here are 10 of my favorite ways to get started!
For Those Who Don’t Want to Sell Anything
You don’t want to sell anything, nor do you want to write a blog or build a website, or anything like that. This is one way you can make money by shopping for all of your holiday presents and everything in between.
You’ve seen the commercials on TV right? Rakuten is an online “mall” where you can shop hundreds of name brand retailers like Macy’s, Grandin Road, Frontgate, Sephora, Joseph A Bank and then receive a percentage cashback from your purchases on a quarterly basis. I was an Ebates consumer for several years. The numbers they bait you with on TV are not “normal” unless you have a large family who literally buys every single item from Rakuten. Most of the percentages will be around 2% or 4%, but they have a Daily Double, where one of the retailers is featured at double their normal commission rate. One great item to purchase from Ebates is your printer ink. A lot of the ink companies will go up to 20% cash back and that is when I stock up. At the end of the day, an average person with average purchases can make an extra $150 – $200 a year.
You Want to Start a Blog
Blogging can be a hobby or a legitimate business with a full-time income. It takes a lot of hard work but for me, the rewards of connecting with my community (YOU) are totally worth it!

You Can Work and Sell a Little or a Lot
If you are willing to put in some time and effort, these online businesses can offer you anywhere from a little extra cash to a lucrative income. Whether you have a skill or craft and want to make items to sell, or if you enjoy collecting or have some extra items around the house, here are some great ways to make some extra cash in a short amount of time.
Craigslist and Facebook
Craigslist is cliche, but it’s still around and very popular. It’s free to list your items. A lot of communities have online Facebook groups created for the sole purpose of selling items locally. Whether it’s a washing machine or a baby onesie, these groups are a great way to offload items. Always beware of meeting up with strangers and it is recommended to meet up in a neutral, public location. For me personally, I conduct my “stranger danger” transactions at the parking lot of our police station. I always recommend picking a parking lot in a safe public place.
Did you know that Amazon.com has a trade in program? Even if the item wasn’t purchased through Amazon, you can re-sell books, video games, DVD’s, phones, and other items through their program.
Whether you make jewelry, crafts, or want to sell vintage items, opening an Etsy store is an awesome market place for selling unique items.
eBay. The infamous eBay. You can sell anything, and you don’t have to open a store if you only want to sell a few items. Keep in mind that eBay charges fees to list items, and also charges a fee when they sell.
Trade-in or sell your phone for cash. Easy.

There are countless others, but these are the businesses that really stand out, and the ones that I’m most familiar with, enough to recommend. Wouldn’t it be great to have an extra $200, $500, or $1,000 or more each month? What’s your side hustle like?

What a great resource! I’ve heard of some of these places before, but others are new….now I’ve got to check them out! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Merry Monday! 🙂
Hi Christine – Thanks so much! Hugs, Holly
I hear others talking about ebates just haven’t done it yet.
Hi Gail – I prefer to shop online rather than driving to the store, so ebates works well for us. I just wish the real money was as much as they advertise on TV! Hugs, Holly
If u shop online its awesome. After u have made an account you just go to the online store u want to shop at, THRU Ebates App though first. I buy all my Groupons thru Ebates. Some I get 1.40 back but after 3months they all add up. The best is when Clearly Contacts gives 20% back! I got $42 back! So Im over $240 money back in the last 1.5yrs. They just mail a chq every quarter.
What a great resource. I think I may fall in the sell a little area. So nice to have an honest opinion on ways to work from home
Hi Cynthia – I’m finally figuring out how to merge my worlds together and thought the resources would be helpful to others. Hope you are well my friend! Hugs, Holly
Great list thanks. Fiverr s another brilliant resource. My friend used it to raise fund for holiday last year.
Hi Esther – Thank you for stopping by to share! I’ve heard of Fiverr, and have heard quite a few people who have had success with it, but I haven’t had personal experience yet. Will have to check it out! Hope to see you again soon! Hugs, Holly
Thanks for the great ideas, Holly. I’ve always admired your entrepreneurial spirit. You inspire me with your ideas. Congrats, you’re featured this week at the #ThisIsHowWeRoll Link Party on Organized 31.

Hi Jamie – Thanks so much for stopping by to share! Hope to see you again soon! Hugs, Holly
I’ve always wanted to try Ebates but didn’t know if it was a scam – thanks for the post!
Hi Katie – Definitely legit, but you won’t make the money they tell you will on TV. Give it a whirl! Thanks for stopping by to say hello and I hope to see you again soon! Hugs, Holly
Hi Holly! Great job mentioning Direct Sales as a valid option for earning extra money. My 5 1/2 yrs with Thirty One have given me the freedoms with my daily schedule (and family life) that working in the office with my college degree never allowed. I’m eternally grateful for the lifestyle I have due to direct sales!
Hi Kris – Thank you for stopping by to say hello and share! Although I’ve never had any direct experience, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Thirty One and it sounds like you are doing quite well yourself! Hope to see you again soon! Hugs, Holly
Holly,
You mentioned DS companies but have left out one that is a great option for cancer survivors especially cancers that are hormonally influenced such as breast cancer. Arbonne International has skin care, personal care, bath and body, makeup, baby care and nutritional items (not all supplements) that are paraben free, phalate free, vegan, nonGMO, soy free, gluten free and as well as other beneficial things to help individuals live healthy lives from the inside out and feel great! I would love to speak with you about this fantastic company!
Hi Jennifer – Apologies for your comment getting stuck in the queue and thank you for taking the time to comment. I am not familiar with Arbonne, but will definitely look into it and hit you up soon! Thanks so much for the great suggestion, especially one that is so on par with what I do. Hope to see you again soon! Hugs, Holly
I think I’m definitely going to try Amazon’s re-sell program. We are in the middle of declutter in a big way so that would be a great way to make a little extra cash from some of the items. Thanks for sharing with us at Merry Monday this week!
Awesome! We do most of our re-selling on eBay, and I am always amazed at what other people will buy. It’s not only great to declutter your own home, AND make some money, but also be sustainable and helping others purchase gently used items. Way to go! Good luck! Hugs, Holly
I love your “A Penny Earned is A Penny Saved.” Earning and saving go hand in hand. Congrats, you’re featured this week at the #ThisIsHowWeRoll Link Party.
Hi Susan – You are such a sweetheart my dear frugal friend! Thank you for the awesome party feature! Hugs, Holly
