At $30 each, these Kate Spade Christmas ornaments are too fabulous for words. At next to nothing, the DIY is even better. While we all know that my crafting skills are… well… let’s just say that if I can pull it off, so can you!
These are the real Kate Spade Christmas ornaments. $30 each so if you want all three, that will run you $90 not including tax or shipping and handling if you order them online.
This is my interpretation and DIY of the same ornaments. Close enough for horseshoes? Or should I say, close enough for a pair of Kate Spade shoes?
I have a million and three random ornaments, but not white ones. While I was hoping for plastic, I had to get the glass ones and pray that I didn’t drop them. I had the black paint on hand. Really, that’s it. Add a ribbon for some embellishment and you are done!
I knew that the dots would be easy. I used one of those round sponges to apply the paint. I thought I was going to use the washi tape to help mark the lines, but didn’t need it. It did, however, come in handy to steady the ornaments as I worked on them.

The fal-la-la, I just free-formed. Not the best, but fair enough. The stripes…. whew did that one throw me for a minute. Washi tape – no, it doesn’t curve. Hummmm….. then I looked over at Stepson’s desk and saw one of those circle template tools. I used it to draw the circles and then just colored in. Not the best, but I couldn’t show you two out of the three. I added some red ribbon and they are ready to hang on the tree or give as a gift.
Now the big decision is… on which of our seven trees should I hang them…. or give them as a gift???

Hi Susan – Oh pah-leeze! You are way too kind, but thank you. They were fun to make! Hugs, Holly
You are so crafty! Your crafting skills get better with each craft you make. I love these decoration and I will have to pass this on to my daughter. She has a tree with black/white/silver and is on a budget, so these would be perfect!
Hi Cynthia – Oh how perfect! I didn’t realize how easy it was to paint on plain ornaments, she can make any design she wants! Thank you for your sweet compliments! Hugs, Holly
I sometimes can’t believe what companies will charge for products!! $30 an ornament is killing me. What a great way to copy their idea on the cheap! Thanks, Holly. Have a great day! #ibabloggers
Hi Elizabeth – Thanks for stopping by and I know, right? I think I could decorate an entire tree on $30!!! I heart #IBABLOGGERS! Hugs, Holly

Stopping by from SITS linky. I saw these a few days ago and had to share them on FB. Love them and at a much better price 🙂
Hi Melinda – Oh my goodness, you are so sweet, thank you for the FB shares!!! Hugs, Holly
$30 for a glass Christmas ornament! Cough**sputter**cough** Seriously who has that kind of money to throw away?!
Yours are beautiful, and you can take pride in the fact that someone out there would pay lots of money for them. 🙂

Hi Audrey – You are too kind, thank you. And I know, right? I love Kate Spade, but not a $30 ornament I can throw some paint on myself! Hugs, Holly
Did I read that right, 7 trees?!? Are they all different themes or colours? I have one and am tempted to get a second this year, I’ve got a long way to go to get to 7! Love the deckies by the way!
Hi Julie – Yes, 7 trees. Only one was actually purchased at a store, one was a hand-me-down, and the remainder are small ones I picked up at yard sales. Each room has it’s own theme and decorations. Hummm… thank you for a great idea for another post!!!! Hugs, Holly
Thank you so much for this post! I have been obsessed with trying to dupe these ornaments to no avail. I tried using black electrical tape for the stripes. If only it would behave and lay flat around the curves! I will try the paint technique if I can get the circles to work out.
Hi Nicole – Those circles really threw me for a loop! (tee hee… that pun wasn’t intentional!!!). I just traced the big and small circles in pencil and then painted over. I couldn’t get the stripes identical, but as they say… close enough for the crafting world. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs, Holly
I love Kate Spade! Her style is so cute and modern, and your ornaments are awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Michelle – I love Kate Spade too… most of her stuff anyway. Sometimes thought not always the price, so thank you for your kind compliment! Hugs, Holly

Hi Karen – I am the queen of clutziness and I could only find glass ornaments, but they would be so much more durable on plastic ornaments! Happy holidays and hugs, Holly
Kate Spade is one of my favorite designers, so when I saw this post on SITSgirls I had to check it out! This is such a great idea and yours came out beautifully! I love that you could use any color ornament and/or paint. So easy to make it personal, but I will admit I am a fan of the black and white. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hi Bre – I agree, they are so easy to custimize! I love the Kate Spade-esque copy but they can be any design and any color. Whodathunk you can paint on ornaments right? Thanks for stopping by! Happy holidays and hugs, Holly
