This is what the back corner looked like when we moved in – overgrown and in need of love.

We ripped out the majority of the overgrown trees and shrubs to start fresh and build back up.  It looked pretty sad for a few years.

Once it grew into its own, it still needed something… a little landscape love and help. So we decided to build a garden path.

The magnolia tree is to the left, the crepe myrtle in the back, and the fig and apple trees to the right.  Remember the pallet flag?

I replanted the organic strawberries which were taking over my vegetable garden to the spot under the crepe myrtle. This is their growth after the first year, and although we didn’t see any strawberries this year, I know they will be multiplying like crazy next year!

The barriers are made out of recycled material, and the large concrete stones were re-used from the property.

I had it all built up and prepped and was ready to finish it one Saturday morning.  Hubby went out for a run and the plan was for me to get it ready for him to do the heavy lifting (concrete stones and bags of stones) when he got back.

At 10:00 in the morning, was already 90 degrees outside and after close to two hours of heat and heavy lifting, I was ready to pass out, but I did it all by myself.

I’m not sure if it’s because it does look so beautiful, or if it’s because I was physically able to do all of the hard work myself, but it’s such a feeling of pride to look out the back window and see the garden path and landscaping.
