Have you ever wandered goes on behind the scenes at a fashion show? I had the honor of being one of the models for Runway Moms for a Cause. The fashion show raised several thousand dollars for the Tigerlilly Foundation, a breast cancer organization, and all of the models had a great time supporting such a good cause. Join me as I share an exclusive look at some of the back stage shenanigans.
Runway Moms for a Cause is “a fashion initiative with the mission to serve as a vehicle to raise funds for non-profit organizations. Each year, RMFC will profile and celebrate accomplishments of mothers who impact change in their communities.”
This year, the event raised funds for the Tigerlilly Foundation. The Tigerlily Foundation is a “national breast cancer foundation providing education, awareness, advocacy and hands-on support to young women (15-40) – before, during and after breast cancer.” If you have followed me for more than a second, you know that this organization is near and dear to my heart, and I have been supporting Tigerlilly as an Ambassador for several years.
The show’s organizer, Lara Akinsanya, owner of L~Shandi Designs, designed my dress. This picture was from the first fitting. I fell in love with my dress the second I saw it. It had a Molly Ringwald Pretty in Pink vibe to it, with a glamorous modern day style.
Lara: “Do you want more tulle under the dress?”
Holly: “A girl can never have enough tulle.”
Lara: “I completely agree!”
Behind the Scenes at the Show
We arrived to see all of our couture dresses ready to go.
The final product…. yep… you can never have enough hot pink tulle under your dress. Just sayin’ .
First was hair…. then makeup. They brought in a crew from Paul Mitchell to ensure we were runway gorgeous.
This is my new friend Christine St. Vil from Moms ‘N Charge. We were backstage together for six hours and thick as thieves by the time the night was over.
Since I couldn’t exactly take a selfie during the REAL show (#inappropriate), I had to take one out on the catwalk during practice. I mean, really… how many times in your life do you get to take a selfie on the catwalk?!?!? #domylittleturn
Lots of waiting… and waiting… there are so many moving parts going on to make a fashion show happen. All of the models had suitcases full of… whatever…. to keep us occupied. #fromwhereistand #orsit
My fan club was there to cheer me on – Mom and Dad. Hubby was flat out sick and unfortunately couldn’t make it. #proudmamma
Anyone who knows me and my family, knows that we aren’t really into the whole celebrity scene. We are a military family, and believe that our veterans are our country’s real heroes. Knowing that I would be meeting some famous people, I tried to do some research ahead of time so I would know who everyone was and not woefully embarrass myself… which I’m sure I did. The celebrities were all so extremely down to earth and gracious and wonderful people to get to know. #realpeopletoo
Paul Wharton of CW Television was the host and super friendly. My parents loved meeting him.
Lynda Erkiletian was one of the models and an absolute doll in person. She is the CEO of THE Artist Agency and was on the Real Housewives of DC TV show.
One of my favorite people – Lesli Foster, Anchor of Channel WUSA 9 news. I have worked with her before and she is a sweetheart.
Maimah Karmo is the Founder of the Tigerlilly Foundation and hands down one of the most amazing people I have ever met. “While undergoing her second round of chemotherapy, she made a promise to God that if she survived, she would create an organization to educate, empower, advocate for and support young women affected by breast cancer.”
Maimah is beautiful inside and out, and is wearing stunning couture by L~Shandi.
…. and back to reality… it was a little warm backstage, so we had to battle some sweat and try to keep ourselves looking runway ready before it was show time. #sweatinglikepigs. This is my new friend Maria Jose Ovalle of Very Busy Mama. We kept each other in stitches laughing before the show.
At press time, the official pictures of the show haven’t been released yet, but when they are, I will try and add a few so you can see some of us on the runway.
