I love Mod Podge, Mason Jars, and all things patriotic, so one of my projects for the Patriot’s Palooza party was to DIY this patriotic Hero Mason Jar. It can be used for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, a service member’s return from deployment, military retirement party, or any other patriotic occasion.
Supplies
The supplies were very basic:
- Mason Jar
- Mod Podge
- Picture cut-outs from magazines
- Brush
- Scissors
The first step was to organize the pictures to ensure they would fit around the Mason Jar.
I used Mod Podge on the front and back of the pictures, let it dry, and then added a patriotic ribbon around the top.
This is the view of the other side.
The third side view. I took the pictures from a bunch of old American Legion and other history-related magazines that Hubby subscribes to.
And finally the last side view. I positioned the ribbon to just the right spot so it wouldn’t hide any of the pictures.
It’s a Mason Jar, so it can be filled with anything – flowers, utensils, straws, or even better – flags.
I’m so excited to use this DIY Hero Mason Jar as one of the centerpieces for our party.

I love this! I think I’ll be doing something like this for July 4th. I’ll put a couple up in a few stores I know would let me & collect money for the foundation.

Holly, Ms. Mod Podge girl! Your patriotic jar turned out great! It would work well to hold flowers on a loved one’s grave for Memorial Day, too.

Hi Raquel – Thanks for visiting and for pinning! Hugs, Holly
This is so neat, Holly. I’m not a craft-oriented person so far as being able to make stuff, but I surely admire those who can! This would be wonderful for a Welcome Home party or perhaps to send in a Care package to a person in the military. No doubt it would be fantastic as favors for a patriotic-themed celebration!!!
Thanks to you and your cohorts for hosting this party! It’s wonderful for our men & women in the military and their families to be thought of and supported in every way possible!
Hi Alycia – I’m not blessed with the crafty gene, but cutting out pictures from a magazine and using a little Mod Podge I can certainly handle. Hope to see you this week at the Patriot’s Palooza party! Hugs, Holly
