Everyone is talking about the Bulletproof coffee craze. But what’s all of the hype about? I decided to find out for myself. My family went bulletproof for a week. You will never believe what happened.
In full disclosure, I am a true skeptic at heart. I’ll see a commercial on TV “does it really do that?” and then instantly Google it’s reviews because I want the validation that it doesn’t work. My husband, Carter, is just as big of a skeptic, maybe even more. So when I brought home samples of Bulletproof Coffee and Brain Octane Oil, neither of us had any expectations that it would work.
What is Bulletproof Coffee?
Along with a lot of hype, there is also some misinformation about what makes bulletproof coffee… bulletproof. So I went straight to the experts at Bulletproof.com. “Bulletproof Coffee is a high-performance drink that has a massive impact on your energy and cognitive function.” The original recipe is made with Bulletproof Coffee Beans, 1-2 tsp of Brain Octane Oil, and 1-2 tsp of grass-fed butter or ghee, all mixed together in a blender or Nutribullet.
Why does Bulletproof Coffee work so well? The perfect combination of the coffee, brain octane, and butter help to suppress hunger, give you steady lasting energy, and mental clarity. And it’s the specific ingredients in this exact recipe which has all of the research behind it. (Source).
What Happened in Our Home?
Well, we tried.
We’ll start with Stepson. He is your typical teenager, and wanted to try it to help him focus better in school. Carter is a retired Green Beret, so he’s extremely committed to staying in shape and being at the top of his game at work. I’m desperate for anything to help my brain recover from chemo and Hashi’s and am also trying to lose those 10 pounds gained from being sick the last seven years.
The Verdict Is In
Stepson loves it, and can tell a difference in his focus. Carter said that the combo helps him focus and also keeps him satiated longer.
I added the Brain Octane to an avocado smoothie. It’s the best I could do without dairy or coffee. I can go until lunch without being hungry. And while I don’t think it’s possible for my brain to recover overnight, I did notice a small improvement in focus.
We seriously doubted the difference would be noticeable, but we were wrong. We are now converts and Bulletproofing every day.
