This one had been stirring inside of me for a while. I knew that there was a missing piece to my purpose and passion, but I wasn’t sure what it was. Like everything else in life, it just kind of happened. I knew that the last piece of the puzzle was to find beauty in the broken.

Last week, I shared my 5 life mantra’s learned from 5 years after cancer. Except that I shared #1 through #4 and left you hanging with #5. Well… here it is!
5. Know Your Beauty Going through cancer treatment will deliver an epic blow to the ole self esteem. Recovery is difficult both physically and emotionally. The inner scars are typically deeper than the external ones. I wanted to find a way to share this story of healing and redefining beauty with other women. Because cancer aside, we all struggle with our “beauty” issues. We look at ourselves in the mirror and see our flaws instead of our strengths.
I created The Fortitude Collection on our eBay store to sell upcycled and repurposed creations. These items parallel my journey as a breast cancer survivor, and the journey to find true beauty. While going through treatment, I was bald, missing part of my breast, and thrown into early chemical menopause.
I was completely broken and my self-esteem was shattered. When I hit rock bottom, I had to pick myself up and redefine true beauty. Each item in The Fortitude Collection is one-of-a-kind and handmade (by yours truly). They are pieces that were old, and/or rusted, and/or covered in dirt and cobwebs, and/or ready for the trash or landfill. They are the pieces that everyone else thinks are worthless and should be thrown away. With a little bit of creativity and a lot of love, I have resurrected these items into beautiful treasures. It’s a way to honor real beauty and remind women to love yourself no matter what you are going through. It’s also a way for me to help fund my advocacy efforts.
100% of the profits from The Fortitude Collection will be channeled into Pink Fortitude, LLC’s breast cancer awareness and advocacy program via book donations to cancer centers, awareness materials, and donations to The Tigerlily Foundation and The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. Keeping it real here folks… running an advocacy program costs money.
The Fortitude Collection is a way for my cancer journey to come full circle to help others. The journey to find the broken pieces… the inner therapy to fix the broken… the reminder that you are beautiful no matter how broken… and the funds to help heal the newly broken. We all have our issues and problems. We all have our stories. There may be days when it feels like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. But let me encourage you, my friend, to look beyond today. Every single day you have a choice as to how you are going to live your life. You can be a victim and wallow in the woe is me, or you can make a difference and inspire others. It is your choice. Know your beauty. Find your fortitude.
