It’s that time of year. The ants go marching one by one. All over your kitchen! You want to get rid of them, but not at the expense of toxic chemicals. And those bait traps never work. This DIY for homemade all-natural ant spray is quick and easy to make. It doesn’t kill the ants. But it will help to eliminate them forever.
Homemade All-Natural Ant Spray DIY
Ants are actually pretty cool little buggers. They can carry 50 times their body weight. They work together. But when they get into your home, and especially your kitchen, all that matters is that you want them gone! Growing up, I lived in the country and we used to call them “piss ants.” I used to think it was because it pissed off Mamma when they invaded her kitchen. Now thanks to Mr. Goggle… I learned that Pissant is a legit species of ant. Whodathunk!?!?!
But seriously… I drink my morning tea, set it down on the counter, walk away for 10 minutes… and this is what I come back to.
Blech. You are kidding me, right? I don’t want to use chemicals, so here we go with a DIY ant spray!
There are plenty of homemade ant killer spray recipes out there. Many of which I’m sure work. A lot of recipes call for peppermint. Many bugs and pests, including mice and spiders do not like peppermint. I actually make a Swiffer Cleaning Spray with peppermint as the primary ingredient just for this reason. But there is a better way to repel ants. Cinnamon.
You can use regular ole cinnamon spice in a jar. But Essential Oils are much more potent and work the best. This recipe doesn’t kill the ants. It just repells them. And with most all-natural remedies, you have to use it several times to see good results. It’s not a once and done chemical bomb.
It’s also good to note the dosing for Essential Oils. First, you always want to use glass instead of plastic, as the oils are extremely concentrated and can eat through plastic. Second, the general rule of thumb is 1-2 drops of Essential Oils per ounce. I like using 5 drops for this recipe.
Psst… want easy to follow instructions on how to make all of your favorite household cleaners… the all-natural way? It’s eezy peezy! Click below…
