I always look forward to my bedtime routine and falling asleep. It’s my reward for making it through the day! Three of my favorite ways to wind down after a long day include reading a book, saying my gratitudes, and scenting the bedroom with lavender.

This evening ritual tells my body that it’s time for bed, and the scent of lavender helps me to enjoy a calm and restful sleep.

If you are curious about scenting your bedroom for a good night’s sleep, keep reading for five ways to use Febreze Light Lavender products. I will also share some behind-the-scenes information on the ingredients that Febreze uses (and doesn’t) and answer the question many of you want to know – is Febreze safe to use.

5 Ways to Scent Your Room for a Good Night’s Sleep

1. Spray Pillows and Linens

When I was a little girl, I would sometimes spend the night at my favorite aunt’s house. You know the one – that super fabulous aunt who was the epitome of cool and loved clothes and jewelry. Yeah, THAT aunt. She would mist a linen spray on my pillow before bedtime. It was so special and indulgent. Fast forward, as an adult, I still love misting my linens before bedtime. It brings back happy memories and I feel like I’m sleeping at a 5-star resort. Give your pillows and bed linens a quick spray of Febreze Light Fabric Refresher Lavender spray and fall asleep in a lullaby of lavender.

2. Spray Duvet or Comforter

Our duvets and comforters don’t get washed as often as our sheets. Can I get some solidarity on this one? Odors can get trapped and linger over time. While you are spaying your pillows and linens, don’t forget your duvet or comforter too!

3. Burn a Candle

While you should obviously never leave a candle unattended, you can burn Febreze Light Candle while you are getting ready for bed. By the time you brush your teeth, wash your face, get your PJs on, and settle down with a book, your bedroom will have the light fragrance of lavender. It’s a great way to refresh your bedroom using herbal scents and without any heavy perfumes. Blow out the candle and say your gratitudes before falling asleep.

4. A Quick Refresh

So many of our bedrooms double as an impromptu gym. Treadmills, exercise bikes, yoga mats, and athletic sneakers are items that may leave your bedroom smelling not-so-fresh. When you are brushing your teeth and shutting down for the night, spray Febreze AIR to give your bedroom a quick refresh before falling asleep.

5. Spray Your Drapes

Drapes are the jewelry of your bedroom. Beautiful and elegant, yet how often do they receive any attention? Maybe during spring cleaning? By this point, your curtains and drapes are running their own little B&B for odors. Once a week, give your drapes a light mist of Febreze Light Fabric Refresher Lavender spray. As with all Febreze sprays, be sure to test a small area first, and don’t use on fabrics that water spot, including silk, suede, and leather.

Febreze and Fragrance

Febreze follows and exceeds very strict safety testing and regulations for fragrances. They also take a responsible approach to creating delightful fragrances and sourcing their ingredients. Their goal is to take a responsible environmental approach through responsible sourcing, which includes using a mix of dependable human-made and natural ingredients.

Is Febreze Safe to Use?

I started using Febreze Fabric Refresher over 20 years ago, back in my single days. I used it to “de-stinkify” my coat and clothes at the end of the night out with my friends.  I also used it to freshen up my fabric couch.

Enter later adulthood and a chronic illness, I am a huge skeptic when it comes to commercial products and their safety. After a lot of research, I wanted to rid our home as much as possible from toxic ingredients like VOCs, phthalates, triclosan, and bisphenol A. In 2015, I did a big purge of many commercial cleaners and products in our home and opted to make my own instead. I didn’t even check the labels – I just assumed all commercial cleaners and products contained these ingredients. As someone who is very brand loyal, it was sad to say goodbye to Febreze.

Fast forward to today, I was pleasantly surprised when P&G contacted me to discuss Febreze and its safety. I was definitely intrigued and cautiously open-minded. I had the honor of attending a 90-minute meeting with their Senior Scientific Communications Manager to learn about Febreze’s product development, safety processes, and ingredients, and ask lots of questions. Here’s what I learned.

Febreze and the ingredients in it are designed with your safety at the heart, and rigorously tested for safety. They don’t just test each ingredient independently, but also how the ingredients interact with each other. This determines a product’s safe range standards.

Febreze goes above and beyond the highest safety standards set by external agencies like the EPA. As with all cleaning products, the ingredients in their air fresheners are regulated by government agencies.

I love how transparent Febreze is with their ingredients – they have been disclosing their ingredient list since 2017! They use 100% natural propellant and their ingredients include water, citric acid (like the stuff in lemons), and cyclodextrin (derived from corn).  The full list of ingredients in Febreze and a list of ingredients Febreze does not use is available at Febreze.com, so you can feel good about using it as part of your everyday routine.

What’s NOT included in Febreze products:

  • Flammable propellants like butane and propane
  • VOCs
  • Formaldehyde
  • Phthalates
  • Benzene
  • Triclosan
  • Alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates
  • Bisphenol A
  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
  • PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons)
  • Triclocarban
  • Organotins (TBT, DBT, MBT, DOT).
