I love everything about the 4th of July – the stars, the stripes, the patriotism, the flags – EVERYTHING! It’s my favorite holiday and what better way to celebrate our Nation’s independence than with patriotic decorations on the front porch. Here are five great decorating ideas that will have you seeing stars and stripes forever.
1. Red Geraniums
I am in love with red geraniums. Red geraniums as hanging plants, red geraniums in the window boxes… red geraniums everywhere!
After we just had a major facelift and the house painted from beige to blue, the red geraniums (and the flag) really pop against the blue exterior.
2. A Patriotic Wreath
Do you know how hard it is to find a patriotic wreath that doesn’t look tacky? I made a blinged-out wreath last year, but it broke and was held together by duck tape so it didn’t survive. I love this one I found on Etsy. It’s a nod to patriotic colors without being too obnoxious. Perfect to greet our visitors at the front door.
3. Classic Americana Bunting
Does it get any more all-American apple pie than patriotic bunting? I added a ribbon with stars and polka dot embellishments to add some extra flair.
4. American Flag
Goes without saying… the American flag should be flown all year long, not just for patriotic holidays.
5. Flags in flower pots.
I’m sure there are many people who agree with me and do this. I’m sure there are many people who disagree and say this is disrespectful to the flag. Hubby served for 25 years in the Army and we love our country and putting flags in flower pots is one of my favorite things to do for a patriotic holiday. Bonus if it’s in a Besty Ross flag ceramic pot.
The red, white, and blue flowers are all used as filler, spiller, and thriller.
More patriotic bunting… it’s such a classic look… I just love it!

Hi Cyndee – You are so sweet, thank you! I want to say Plow and Hearth but I can’t remember – it was a few years ago. Hugs, Holly

Hi Christine – Thank you so much for stopping by to say hello and for your kind words! Very much appreciated and I hope to see you again soon. Hugs, Holly
Where do I start? I love Geraniums and red is my favorite color. I think they are the best in the garden. Love your front porch, I would love to sit there with you and chat!
Hi Cynthia my fellow red geranium friend!!! Come and sit a spell… any time! It’s funny.. all of our neighbors have their fancy Adirondack chairs out and Hubby and I just plop down on the stoop and watch the world go by. Hugs, Holly
Hello – I found you on Link Party Palooza. My front porch is one of the most important parts of my home. It’s a place to rest and reflect, I change the themes with the holidays. As I age I am finding each year I leave one more Christmas decoration up for the year, a Santa here or there. I seriously dislike taking my 4th of July decorations down off my porch. I painted a bench with the flag (it’s on Pinterest)but it’s not enough. I decided looking at your photos to set up and leave my American Pride Porch up till Christmas. Thanks for the great photo inspirations!
Hi Carlyn – Thank you so much for stopping by to share! Our 4th decorations usually stay up until the fall decorations come out. Yep. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Hope to see you again soon. Hugs, Holly
I love your porch. You should come link it up on our Saturday linky party….Simple Saturdays. I love anything patriotic.
Hi Valerie – Thank you for your kind invitation! Hugs, Holly
I love all the patriotic decor as well. We visit the same small town each summer and it’s always done up Americana which gives you such a sense of pride. Visiting from Morning Cup of Joe.
